Concealing his situation was disturbing. Bruce never kept secrets from
his family and friends. Not being able to share the scary thing he was
experiencing was difficult. He woke up every morning feeling sluggish
and with a persistent headache, and some days he wanted to hibernate
under the covers of his bed. Lately he was overwhelmed with gratitude for
having a job where he sat behind a computer and had little interaction with
people.

The first thing Bruce did when he got to work one Monday was to schedule
a physical. His company offered medical checkups, and it certainly couldn’t
hurt to get one. Maybe something would show up in the blood work. He usually
hoped for results to come back fine, but this time, he almost wished his
tests would indicate that the block-outs were caused by something that had a
cure.
